Check your owner’s manual for recommended change intervals. Similarly, if your cabin air filter clogs, it may limit airflow into the passenger compartment, leading to unpleasant smells or an uncomfortable temperature. If your engine air filter clogs, it may restrict airflow into the engine intake, resulting in poor performance. As filters clog with contaminants, their performance may suffer. Choose the filters that work best for you and your car and be sure to change them regularly. Activated carbon cabin air filters absorb odours, such as from other vehicles, in addition to dust and pollen.Īs you can see, there are many car filter options out there.Paper and synthetic cabin air filters are designed to capture dust and pollen while allowing for high airflow. This NAPA Enviroshield cabin air filter has antimicrobial properties to keep the air in your car even cleaner. Cabin air filters are made of paper or synthetic materials and may contain activated carbon. The foam pre-filter can be shaken out or washed in just a few minutes, and then reinstalled.Ĭabin air filters, sometimes called pollen filters, keep dust and pollen from getting into the cabin, though not as effectively as HEPA filters. These capture dust before it reaches the primary air filter, extending its useful life. Cone-type filters maximize airflow.įoam pre-filters are also washable, making them ideal for messy activities like off-roading or logging. Custom air filter and intake tubes are manufactured for many vehicles, usually popular performance vehicles. I have to clear up this oil filter myth & show a comparison of Napa platinum oil filter vs Napa gold oil filter & Napa silver. Custom air filters usually require an aftermarket cold air intake system. These can be cleaned and oiled repeatedly and last much longer than standard OEM air filters. Cotton or gauze permanent air filters can be OEM-style or custom.NAPA ProSelect and NAPA Gold air filters are great choices for typical driving conditions, but you may also want to consider the following options. Some original equipment manufacturer (OEM) filters are made of synthetic fibres, but most are made of corrugated paper, wood fibre, or cellulose. Same idea though: Įdit 2: pleats restricting flow all I could find was HVAC lol.Engine air filters keep abrasive particles out of the engine. More so thinking out loud always up for debate.Įdit: air going straight through the material opposed to through the angled material (means reduced velocity) which is my point here of restriction.Įdit 2: pleats restricting flow all I could find was HVAC lol. So material filtering capability outweighs surface area I guess? Area only comes into play for how long they recommend (mileage wise) running it? I don’t think it necessarily improves air quality just because there is more pleats, just means you’re going to run it for longer. I’m not saying we should run no filter media, but I think there is a point where too many pleats just means people will run it for longer as there is more area before it “looks as bad” or it becomes clogged. I would think reducing any one of those restrictions is a win, it’s not that we are making the throttle body inlet area larger or smaller but less resistance for incoming air I would think is the good. Doesn’t more filter material mean more restriction? I would think restriction number one is the air going into the air intake (area of the opening), then the air filter material area then the throttle body area.
